HAVE A HEART PET SHELTER
This week we want to write about the importance of teaching your children how to be a good pet owner.
We were so happy to see the number of families at our booth at Christmas on the Square last week. We
enjoyed helping the children (of all ages) make a Christmas bag for their pets. Each one was allowed to
choose a toy, a bandana and a treat for their pet. We were so busy we didn’t get a chance to talk to the
children a lot about the duties of owning a pet. We had a poster up with a Checklist for Responsible Pet
Parents. We’re including the highlights of those posters here:
• Pets need fresh food and water every day to stay healthy
• Shelter – it’s up to us to provide a warm, safe place for our pets to call home
• Play is important to our pets, make sure you give them plenty of attention, exercise and play time
• Respect – sometimes our pets want to be left alone – give them their space when they need it
• Grooming your pet is an important part of pet ownership and helps build a bond with them
• Veterinary Care – make sure your pet gets regular vet visits and vaccinations
Most of all, remember that pets are part of the family and deserve to be treated with love and kindness!
