Meet Stella!

Stella is a gorgeous black and tan Coonhound puppy. She was found as a stray and was not claimed. We think she’s about four months old. Stella is very thin and needs more weight on her but is a very fun-loving and active puppy. She’s only around 16 pounds right now and even though Coonhounds are large, we think she’ll grow up to be fairly petite.
Stella loves to play with other puppies and adult dogs and sometimes goes out in our fenced-in yard with a large play group. She will have to be spayed before she can be adopted, but that will be done soon.
If you have a place in your heart for this playful, happy girl, please come meet Stella at Have A Heart Pet Shelter!
Abandonment is a crime!
Last week, Have A Heart Pet Shelter was alerted to seven or so kittens that were dumped at the Fairview public boat launch. This was the day before the snowfall and sub-zero temperatures were to hit this area. The message was given to the Cat Supervisor who put a large carrier in her car with heated blankets.
On arrival at the boat dock sign, a huddled youngster was observed next to a pile of food. A few feet away, next to another pile of food, there was an emaciated deceased cat. Realizing they had all scattered, a search for individual cats commenced.
Over the course of two hours, going in and out of brush and spiny vines, multiple youngsters were plucked from where they huddled, freezing. They were carefully scruffed so as not to cause them to panic and run off, then placed in the carrier in the car, idling to keep them warm.
Along the road leading away from the boat launch area, another youngster sat huddled near the road while, a couple of feet away, another deceased cat lay. In total, eight adolescent cats were rescued. All showed signs of severe malnutrition.
They are now in a warm and safe environment getting the TLC they deserve. It will take them a while to grow back hair where their coats had gotten very thin from starvation.
Animals are NOT “things” that can be thrown away like trash. They are living, breathing creatures. Please ask for help before abandoning an animal. There are people and resources available.
