Hello Readers!
Meet our Canine of the Week, Wade!

My name is Wade, I am a nine-month-old brown and white border collie mix and I’m a real handsome fella, don’t you think? I have only been at the Shelter for a little while, but the nice people here say I’m being a good boy. So far, I’m learning to walk on a leash and I’m improving every day! I’m shy when it comes to meeting new people, but I’m just getting used to my new temporary home.
At my old house, I had young kids and other dogs to play with. I love to play with toys and learn new tricks. I also love food, so I learn faster when treats are involved. I know how to sit, shake, lay down, and crate. I am kennel-trained and prefer to go in there when I’m nervous. I’ve also been exposed to cats and I know that they are my friends, not enemies.
If you’d like to visit with me, please come to Have a Heart Pet Shelter! See our contact information following the Kitty of the Week info! Also, please remember that I am a shelter animal so it will take a bit of time for me to adjust to new places and people. But once I do, I’ll be your very best friend…I promise!
Our Featured Kitty of the Week is Poppy!

Poppy is a special girl who needs a special furever home. She was one of six cats rescued (along with 30+ dogs) from a hoarding situation in Rea Valley back in mid-March of 2023.
Poppy is a cute, petite black and white tuxedo with the sweetest tiny little meow. She’s been at the Shelter for two years and we estimate she’s about three to four years old.
One thing to know about Poppy is that she tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). This means that she has a weakened immune system and needs to be in a calm home. Ideally, this would be as an only cat, only have canine companions, or with other FIV+ kitties. FIV is a cat-only disease, and these cats often have similar life spans to cats without it.
Poppy is very sweet and likes to indicate when she wants to be picked up by standing on her back legs…pretty darned irresistible! Poppy was also dealing with stomatitis, a disease that causes severe inflammation of the entire mouth. After the recommended treatment (full tooth extraction) her personality has blossomed. She quickly was able to eat regular kibble again, while enjoying extra servings of wet food. She is much more outgoing, plays with toys in the Cattery AND plays with the other kittens too! We were so happy to see quick improvement in her attitude, appetite, and quality of life once her mouth was free from the pain and inflammation of stomatitis.
Please don’t let her medical issues cause you to rule her out. The Shelter can provide extra education and resources to a potential adopter to best understand how to care for Poppy. With proper care, she will make someone a wonderful cuddle bug addition to your family!
If you’d like to meet Wade, Poppy, or any of our other adoptables, please give Have a Heart a call at 870/449-7387 or stop by the Shelter located at 657 Highway 202 West in Yellville during our normal business hours, Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm. Hope to see you soon!
