Have a Heart Pet Shelter Receives Cargo Van Grant

Have a Heart Pet Shelter, a 100% volunteer non-profit animal welfare organization in Yellville, has been awarded a $5000 grant by the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF) to help fund the purchase of a 2019 Ford Transit Cargo Van. Since its inception in 2016, Have a Heart has assisted Marion county residents and surrounding communities in providing shelter, care and adoption services for stray and unwanted dogs and cats, with priority given to unclaimed strays from animal control agencies in Marion county. In addition to the many services offered by the shelter, a Puppy Partner Program was established that involves providing food, vaccinations, and health care to dogs in foster until they can be transported to out-of-state rescues with high adoption rates.  Last year, 285 dogs were transported out-of-state, and 300 dogs and cats were adopted from the shelter, each of them spayed/neutered and fully vetted at time of adoption. Acquiring a reliable van to transport these animals is critical to the success of the shelter in fulfilling its mission to alleviate the suffering of animals in our community. With the financial assistance of AARF and generous donors who support Have a Heart, the purchase of a van has been made possible. Additional donations for the van are needed and may be made to Have a Heart Pet Shelter, P.O. Box 1030, Yellville, AR 72637.

The health and safety of our pets, volunteers and customers are of the utmost importance to us to us and we are closely monitoring the current COVID-19 pandemic and how it is affecting our community.

Due to this concern, effective immediately, we will temporarily limit adoptions to APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Animals available for adoption may be viewed on our website, at www.haveaheartpetshelter.org, on Petfinder, Adopt A Pet, Petango, and Pet Harbor.  We will continue to post animals for adoption in the Mountaineer Echo and on our Facebook page.

The Thrift Store will also be temporarily closed and activity with the Shelter will be limited to our regular volunteers coming in twice daily to care for the animals currently in our care.  We will take messages off the telephone and will respond as appropriate.  During these difficult times, we may be unable to help the local animal control agencies, individuals finding stray or abandoned animals, and those with litters of puppies and kittens.  We will do out best to assist as possible, but some of our rescue partners are temporarily shutting down their operations thus limiting our ability to transport animals outside of our geographic area.

As we continue to care for animals at Have A Heart, we are grateful for the support the community has provided us over the past three years.  The temporary closing of the Thrift Store will greatly reduce the financial support received that provides the veterinary care required for the animals and the overhead necessary to maintain the building.  As we do not receive public taxes or funding, we appreciate any additional contributions you aree able to make at this time.  Contributions may be made via Paypal or by mail to P.O. Box 1030, Yellville, AR 72687.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Have A Heart Pet Shelter.  We will keep you up to date on the latest developments through our Facebook Page.  Be assured, we WILL make it through these tough times.  We are dedicated to the care of these animals and to the community we serve.
