Pets Of The Week

Pet of the Week

Each week Have a Heart Pet Shelter features some of their adoptable pets who are looking for a fur-ever home. This week our featured dog is Cody.  Cody is an older pup, approximately 9 months of age who appears to be a Labrador/Hound mix. He’s a handsome golden boy with a sweet personality. Cody has a calm, easy going temperament with other dogs and he just loves everybody. He truly relishes his walks with our volunteers and is well behaved on a leash. In his picture you can see how happy and content he is to be petted by our volunteer. Cody came to us as an unclaimed stray. Cody might just be the companion you’ve been looking for.

Rikki Tikki is our featured kitty this week. Rikki is a super sweet, medium sized, approximately 3 yr. old boy, recently neutered. He was picked up off the streets in Pyatt where he was in extreme danger of being shot. (I didn’t know there was a cat season in Pyatt.) He’s pure snow white with yellow grey eyes and he’s a very mellow and laid back fellow who loves his tummy rubbed. He is good around other cats, but we don’t know quite how he feels about dogs. Rikki is also completely deaf so will certainly need an indoor, confined home environment. He tested NEG for FELV/FIV & Heartworm. Can you give this sweet special needs kitty the life he deserves? Come by the shelter to meet Rikki Tikki, Cody, and our other pets who are hoping to find a permanent loving home.

In other shelter news, we are transporting 11 more puppies out of state. In addition to the dumped puppies mentioned a couple weeks ago, there was another litter of pups dumped near the transfer station. We’re hoping that they will have a better chance at adoption in their new location. Dumping puppies is not the solution, nor is building bigger shelters with more pens. The solution is to prevent unwanted kittens and puppies by spaying or neutering your pet.

Have a Heart will be hosting our annual Soup and Chili Dinner and Pie Auction on November 17th from 4-8pm at Madden Auction House in Summit. Your $7.00 donation will entitle you to an assortment of homemade soups and chili, cornbread and crackers, dessert, and a beverage. Rio will be performing. If you like to bake, we could use cornbread and desserts for the dessert table and pie auction. Come out for a good meal and to show your support for our Shelter. Tickets are available in advance from board members or at Have a Heart.

We are in need of a few more volunteers to help with walking dogs and cleaning kennels, especially for the afternoon shift and weekends. Contact the Shelter for more information if you are able to help out. We are also in need of puppy and kitten chow. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Phone 870-449-7387. The Shelter and Thrift Store are open Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 3pm. (We walk the dogs every day.)
