Pets Of The Week

The New Year has started off very well for adoptions at Have a Heart. Last week Bandit was the lucky dog who found his fur-ever home. The fortunate felines were Clara and Rascal in addition to the last of the Snack Chip Brothers, Cheezit, Cheeto and Nacho. Cheezit and Nacho went to the same home. The Snack Brothers had grown up in the cattery, arriving as young kittens, and all the volunteers were thankful that they finally found homes. All the cats and kittens in the cattery get great care and lovin’ from our volunteers, but it’s much better for them to find homes of their own.

The first Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic for 2020 will be held March 17th through March 19th at HAH. Registration will begin next week on Friday January 17th and Saturday January 18th from 10am to 2 pm at the Shelter. You must register in person and pay a $15.00 registration fee to reserve your spot. The cost of the surgery for dogs up to 75 pounds is $75.00. For dogs over 75 pounds the cost is $85.00. The cost for cats is $50.00. There is some financial aid available if your income is at or below the Federal Poverty Level. If requesting financial aid, you must bring proof of income when you register. The available time slots always fill up quickly, so make sure to register early. If you would like to volunteer to help at the Clinic we will post information on our Facebook page and also in this article when we are closer to the Clinic dates. If you are unable to volunteer at the Shelter on a regular basis, volunteering at the Clinic is a great way to help out without a long term commitment.

Fillmore is the featured dog for this week. Fillmore is a large (75 lb.) tri-colored Shepherd mix. He was picked up with another dog by Flippin Animal Control. He is estimated to be about 5 years old, has been neutered and is heartworm negative. Fillmore is an energetic young boy who walks pretty well on a leash, but likes a brisk pace. He has learned commands sit and lay, but would probably benefit from some additional training. Fillmore gets along well with other dogs and children and would be a good pet for an active individual or family. Stop by Have a Heart to meet this sweet big boy.

This week’s featured kitty is Muffin. Adorable, outgoing Muffin and his brother Cricket look almost exactly alike! They are dilute red tabby brothers that we estimate were born around mid-April of last year. Muffin is a short-haired boy and Cricket has a little bit longer coat. Muffin is extremely affectionate and adventuresome. He loves to play with the other kittens and cats in the cattery but also enjoys reclining on shoulders and curling up in a comfy lap when he can. Both of these sweet young cats are ready to find their loving permanent homes.

We are always in need of a few more volunteers to help us care for the critters, walk dogs, clean kennels, socialize with the animals, do laundry, tote stuff for the Thrift Store and all the other chores that keep the Shelter running. If you can spare a few hours a week, or even once a month, contact David, our volunteer coordinator. We would love to have your help. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 3 pm. Phone 870-449-7387.
