These are challenging times. We at Have a Heart hope you are all staying safe. Pets can be a comfort in trying times, and with careful social distancing, taking your dog for a walk is a great way to exercise, enjoy fresh air and relieve stress. Your dog will thank you for it! And speaking of thankful dogs, all ten adult dogs sent to a partner rescue on the East Coast last week found homes! The pictures we received of these lucky dogs in their new homes made our day.
As we mentioned last week, the Shelter is temporarily closed, and adoptions are limited to APPOINTMENT ONLY. We have some new pets at the shelter, including a beautiful tortoiseshell point bobtail Siamese mama cat and her 8 kittens. Four of the kittens are also bobtail. They are too young to adopt but can be reserved. Animals available for adoption may be viewed on our website, at www.haveaheartpetshelter.org, on Petfinder, Adopt A Pet, Petango, and Pet Harbor. Check out our Facebook page to see the new mama and her kittens.
Because our Thrift Store is temporarily closed to the public, we are not turning over donated goods. We appreciate all donations, and 100% of the proceeds of the sales are used to care for our shelter animals, but we do ask at this time that you save your household goods until we have the opportunity to reopen our Thrift Store. We are asking for donations of pet food, especially puppy and kitten food, as we are caring for many animals and are running low. If you wish to deliver pet food to the Shelter, we will have bins placed outside of our building. We ask that you place the food in the bins. Our volunteers will retrieve the food daily. The temporary closing of the Thrift Store has greatly reduced the financial support received for covering the costs of veterinary care and the overhead necessary to maintain the building. As we do not receive public taxes or funding, we appreciate any contributions you are able to make. Contributions may be made via PayPal or by mail to P.O. Box 1030, Yellville, AR 72687.
Our cat of the week is Rocky. This tall, out-going boy has been hired to be our Thrift Store kitty due to his affectionate nature and playful, curious attitude. He is sad and lonely since the Thrift Store has been closed – he loves to meet new people! He has been at our shelter since he was a small kitten but has been overlooked time and time again. He is only a year old and will make a wonderful companion. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to go to his forever home. You can adopt Rocky by calling and making an appointment.
