Thanks to everyone who attended our open house last weekend to celebrate one year in our wonderful new building. We visited with friends and enjoyed some delicious cake. We appreciate the continued support from our community and would not be able to help the fur-kids without this support. Our next event will be a yard sale on Friday July 20th and Saturday July 21st. There will be some great bargains available as we clear out some of our merchandise from the thrift store. Plan to stop by. I’m sure you will find some treasure that you can’t live without!
We’re heading into the “dog days” of summer, but we’re not featuring a specific dog this week. Go figure! Instead we are going to devote this space for something you should plan on when you adopt your dog and that would be dog training. We have a great resource in our area that can help you teach your dog the basics and more. The North Arkansas Kennel Club has a training facility in Flippin and will begin offering classes this month. If you attended our bark in the Park fundraiser in May, you probably saw some of their demonstrations of obedience, rally and agility. If you’re interested, Puppy class for dogs ages 8 weeks to 6 months starts on Monday, July 23 from 5:30 to 6:15 pm. Cost is $65 for a 6 week class. The 6 week puppy class is designed to teach very basic obedience skills such as walk on loose lead, sit, down, stay, come and in the class will do lots of puppy socialization and work on basic manners such as barking, biting, potty training, etc. If your dog is past the puppy stage, the Beginner obedience class starts Thursday July 26 from 6 to 7 pm. Cost is $65 for a 6 week class. This class, which is designed for dogs 6 months and older and will
teach very basic obedience skills such as walk on loose lead, heel, sit, down, stay, come and attention work. The instructors are qualified instructors with decades of experience and competition with their own dogs. This is a bargain for dog training classes. I know I paid about 30% more when I took my fur-kids for training. If you are interested in signing up for classes, NAKC would like you to pre-register so they can have an idea of how many to expect. The registration form and disclaimer can be found on the club’s website, www.northarkansaskennelclub.org . You can also message them through the website with any questions, or call Training Director, Sherry Gibbany at 870-416-7062. Training your dog is part of being a responsible pet owner.
We do have a featured kitty for this week. Martin (aka Dean Martin) is the last of the Rat Pack kittens waiting for his furever home. Sweet Martin is a chunky, fluffy little ball of black & white. Born mid March, he’s almost 4 months old. Martin was brought in with a group of 3 cruelly abandoned mother cats & their kittens from an empty Yellville home. He is a very curious little boy and loves to play. He enjoys chasing the other kittens up and down the tree in our “catio”. Martin is healthy, outgoing, curious and playful and will be a good size cat when grown. All of our kittens are spayed or neutered when they reach 2-3 lbs and 8-10 weeks of age. Our Kitten Adoptions are $50 and include: Spay/Neuter, deworming, 3 in 1 cat vaccination, Rabies vaccination (if 3 months or older), FELV/FIV testing & Flea preventative treatment. If you chose to take a free kitten from someone, it would cost you a lot more in time and money to get all these things done for your new kitten. Stop by the shelter to meet Martin or any of our other sweet kitties. Have a Heart Pet Shelter is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9am – 3pm.
