Pet of the Week
Apologies again, for no specific featured pets this week. Hopefully we will be back on track next week. You can always view our adoptable animals on www.petfinder.com or on our website, www.haveaheartpetshelter.org.
Last week, with cooperation from several area groups, trees were planted around the shelter. Have a Heart, the Yellville Summit Public Schools, Marion County Master Gardeners and the Arkansas Forestry Commission joined efforts to plant 5 trees at the Shelter. This cooperative effort is an excellent example of the community working together to accomplish their goals. The students dug the holes and the planting was supervised by the Master Gardeners. The five trees were provided by the Arkansas Forestry Service. Getting this landscaping done has been on our “to-do list” for some time. With this group effort there’s one thing we can check off of our list. Have a Heart is thankful for all the support we get from our community. We would not have achieved the level of success that we have without the support and generosity of our community.
With the cold temperatures arriving, HAH would like to remind people with outdoor dogs to provide extra shelter and warmth for their pets. It’s a good idea to add straw to their dog houses and make sure that water bowls are not frozen. In the season of gift giving, many people decide to surprise someone with the gift of a puppy. This is usually not a good idea unless the recipient really wants a puppy. After the initial joy of receiving the pup there is the reality of how much work is involved. Having a dog requires a commitment of 10 to 15 years, sometimes even more. Then you need to consider the added expense of owning a dog. Does the recipient have time to devote to training and housebreaking a puppy? Make sure to consider the long term commitment. Dogs or puppies should not be impulse buys.
