Pets of the Week

Pets of the Week

It is hard to believe that Halloween is almost here. Soon all the adorable ghosts and goblins will be knocking at our doors for treats. If you are in need of decorations, please stop by the Have a Heart Thrift Store. We have a lot of good stuff and are starting to stock additional items for the upcoming holidays. Don’t forget to check out the animal-themed painted rocks and gourds.

We cannot stress enough the importance of spaying and neutering your pets to control overpopulation and unwanted litters. The Spay and Neuter Clinic will be held November 12th -15th. If you did not get a chance to register your pet, you can call the Shelter and have your name added to the stand-by list in case there are cancellations. We need volunteers to work the 4 clinic days.  The volunteer shifts are about 4 hours and the work is not difficult. You can get more information about helping during the clinic by calling or stopping by the Shelter.

We are all looking forward to the Annual Soup and Chili Dinner and Pie Auction. This is an important fundraiser for the Shelter, with 100% of the proceeds going toward the care of the shelter pets. Please mark the date, time and location: Saturday, November 23rd from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Madden Auction House in Summit (14th Street). There will be an array of delicious soups, chili and desserts, live music, a pie auction and a silent auction. We need volunteers to donate pies for the auction, sweets for the dessert table, and crock pots of soup and chili.  The Soup and Chili Dinner is a great event to visit with friends and neighbors, where you will have a chance to meet new people and learn about the Shelter. We hope to see you there. Tickets are $7.00 and can be purchased in advance at the Shelter or at the door.

Sweet Toffee is our featured dog for the week. She is a 7-month-old brown and white hound mix. Our volunteers have been teaching her to walk nicely on a leash and she is partially house broken. She would be a great family dog and needs an owner who is willing to continue with her training.

S’mores, a long-haired Siamese kitten, is our featured cat. This beautiful ball of fluff is very friendly and loves sitting in laps. He and his siblings were tragically orphaned when a dog killed their mother. His littermates have all adopted, leaving S’mores still waiting for his forever home. In addition, our cattery is full, and we would like to find homes for some of the older kittens and adult cats.

For the month of October, Have a Heart is offering a special adoption rate of $25 for kitties who are over 6 months of age. This is a great deal when you consider that all our cats are up to date on their vaccinations, have been spayed or neutered and treated for fleas and ticks. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday 9am to 3 pm. Phone 870-449-7387.
