Pets Of The Week

Happy Halloween from the Have a Heart volunteers and the Shelter’s fur-kids. A recently conducted poll revealed that our dogs and cats prefer treats to tricks, but sometimes a trick is required to get that treat. Have a Heart is in need of volunteers to work the upcoming Spay and Neuter Clinic, November 12th – 14th. The shifts run about 4 hours and the duties are not difficult. You can call the Spay and Neuter Volunteer Coordinator, Kimberly, at 213-840-7085 for more information about volunteering during the Clinic. Leave a message if there is no answer. If you are unable to volunteer at the Shelter on a regular basis, this would be a great way to help out without a long term commitment. The Soup and Chili Dinner fundraiser is scheduled for November 23rd, 5-8 pm at Madden Auction House. We are looking for bakers to donate pies or cakes for the auction or cookies and bars for the dessert table. Advance tickets are available at the Shelter or you can get your tickets at the door. This is our 4th year doing this fundraiser and it’s always a fun evening with good food and fellowship, all for the benefit of the less fortunate dogs and cats in our area.

Last week, kitties S-mores, Spitfire and Luther, along with pups Henry and Spice were adopted. Good luck to these fur-babies in their new homes. On a sad note, someone dumped a box with kittens outside the Shelter on a cold night. There was concern that the cold temps had caused health problems for the kittens, but at this point they seem to be doing OK. The Shelter is in need of kitten food to help feed these new babies.

This week’s featured cat is Simon. Simon had a nice home, but his owners had to enter an assisted living facility and they surrendered Simon and his kitty siblings to rescue organizations. Simon is a large, gray and white long haired cat. He has a sweet purr-sonality and gets along with other cats. He is very laid back and loves getting ear scratches and belly rubs. Simon would be a great companion for an older person but would also be a good family cat. Visit Have a Heart to meet Simon and our other adoptable cats and kittens.

Adorable Sugar is our featured pup for the week. As her name suggests, Sugar is a real sweetie. She arrived at the shelter along with her sister, Spice, who has already been adopted. Neither could walk on a leash at all when we took them in. Sugar is quickly learning to walk well on leash and she is beginning to understand housetraining. She has a big bone structures and will be medium to large when full grown. Sugar is gentle, friendly and relatively quiet, but she is still a puppy so she is very playful and energetic. Sugar would be a great pet for an active person or family. Ideally, her new owner will have time to devote to her for additional training. Stop by the Shelter to meet this sweet, young girl and our other adoptable dogs.

Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am-3 pm. Phone 870-449-7387.
