Pets Of The Week

It seems like Old Man Winter is back in town. Hopefully, you were able to enjoy some of the nice weather last weekend before the temperatures crashed. If you have outside pets, now is the time to make sure they have shelter and some insulation like straw to snuggle in to help keep them warm during the winter months. Or better yet, bring them indoors on cold nights. Even a garage or outbuilding is better than being out in the elements.

Have a Heart Shelter will be a very busy place this week. We will be conducting the Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic Tuesday through Friday. Spaying and neutering is the best way to reduce overcrowding in shelters and put an end to the barbaric practice of dumping unwanted domestic pets. Have a Heart is in need of a few more volunteers to help with the fur-kids. We especially need afternoon dog walkers. The dogs get walked starting about 1:45 or 2:00 p.m. Contact the Shelter and speak with David, our volunteer coordinator. Even if it’s only one day a week, we could use your help. If you’re not a dog person, perhaps you could help care for the cats and kittens in our Cattery.

Don’t forget about the Soup and Chili Dinner fundraiser on November 23rd at Madden Auction House. For a $7.00 donation you can enjoy a great meal of homemade soups and chili, cornbread, and a nice assortment of desserts and beverages. Local band Rio, a Twin Lakes favorite, will be performing and we will have a pie auction and a silent auction. We’ve had a lot of nice items donated for the auction including a guided fishing trip, game tables and chairs, some nice kitchenware and more. All the money raised goes to caring for the Shelter pets. We hope to see you there.

Patti is the featured kitten this week. Patti is a beautiful black and white tuxedo kitten who was found as a stray in Yellville. She’s a young, curious, playful and absolutely adorable kitty. She loves lots of attention and playing with the other kittens in the cattery. Patti is quiet and would love to have a warm lap to snuggle in while getting some petting. Stop by Have a Heart to meet Patti or any of our other adoptable cats and kittens. We have all sizes, colors and personalities.

This week’s featured pup is Mabel. Mabel and her siblings Jed and Ellie arrived at the Shelter in mid-October. They were brought in by Summit Animal Control. All 3 of these good looking dogs appear to be full blooded Treeing Walker Hounds, about 7 months old. They were a bit underweight when they arrived, but are now looking much better. Mabel is a friendly girl and loves attention. In typical hound fashion she talks and sings (howls) frequently. Mabel is learning to walk on a leash and she’s getting the hang of house training. Visit Have a Heart to meet Mabel and our other adoptable dogs. While you’re there, don’t forget to browse the Thrift Store.

We have great bargains on a wide variety of items. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 9 am to 3 pm. Phone 870-449-7387.
