Pet Of The Week

Pets of the Week

Brrrr, it’s cold outside! And if it feels cold to you, it’s cold for your pets, too. Please be sure to provide adequate protection from the weather for your outside dogs and cats. An enclosed area that remains dry and is protected from wind is ideal. Straw is a good bedding material that helps keep your pet warm.  Provide fresh water daily as the water is likely to freeze and increase the amount of food you feed as your pets needs more energy in the winter to keep warm. Although it is tempting to give lots of treats and table scraps during the holidays, it is best to feed a high-quality pet food and limit treats, as pets can become seriously ill from consuming people treats.

Be sure to check out the selection of holiday decorations and gifts that are available at bargain prices in our Thrift Store. We even have fully decorated Christmas Trees for sale. As always, the money from all sales goes to help care for our Shelter animals. If you would like to view our wish list for items needed on a daily basis to help care for the Shelter animals, please visit our website at haveaheartpetshelter.org or visit our Facebook page for an Amazon link. In addition, some of our wonderful local realtors are participating in the Angel Tree program to benefit our pets. Please stop by Wood Realty or United Country to say “Hello” and see what our dogs and cats are asking Santa for this year.

We are not featuring a particular dog this week. If you are looking for a canine companion, stop by and one of our volunteers will introduce you to our pups. A few of our dogs have been at the shelter for a very long time and would love to have a new home for Christmas. This week’s featured kitten is named Brownie.  This beautiful brown tabby boy is one of six kittens that were abandoned at the Shelter on a very cold night. He is a very jolly soul and, although a bit timid at first, loves to romp and play. He has white paws and lots of stripes. He is going to be  very handsome when he grows up. So many of our kittens have grown to be cats in our shelter this year. As much as we love every one of them, they would be happiest living with their own person in a home. You can meet Brownie and the other pets during our regular hours Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Phone 870-449-7387.
