Pets of the Week
Are you enjoying the early Spring? The serviceberry trees are in bloom, and the redbuds and dogwoods are soon to follow. Unfortunately, for those of us who assist with animal rescue, Spring is a sad and challenging season, as we will soon be inundated with dumped kittens and phone calls from desperate people needing help with unwanted litters. Have a Heart Pet Shelter has taken in several litters of kittens already this month, and still has about 10 cats that came to the shelter last year as unwanted kittens and have grown up into wonderful adults still needing forever homes. Our community has far more cats than potential adopters. One of the Shelter’s main goals is to educate the public on the importance of spay and neuter. We offer a low cost option with the volunteer Spay and Neuter clinic hosted at the shelter 3 times per year. The first clinic will be held next week but every slot has been filled. The next clinic will be held in July with registration beginning in May. We will post registration dates within a few weeks. As much as we all love furry babies, a Spring without so many homeless kittens in our community would be wonderful.
We are not featuring a dog this week, but instead will highlight a couple of the new kittens, Julius and Guinness. These two are members of the “Junkyard Gang”, a litter of kittens found with their mom in a junkyard! These poor guys were incredibly dirty when they were brought it, but healthy and friendly. Our cat adoptions are a real bargain, because each cat is spayed or neutered, vaccinated (including rabies), treated for fleas and intestinal worms, microchipped, and tested for Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). In addition, the microchip will be registered to the adopter for no additional charge. You can meet Julius, Guinness and the other adoptable pets during our regular hours Tuesday through Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. Phone 870-449-7387.
