Pets Of The Week

What a great week!  Have a Heart Pet Shelter had another successful yard sale, with all proceeds benefiting homeless pets. Several cats and dogs were adopted, and 19 puppies left on transport to Missouri. The shelter has also been the fortunate recipient of a very large donation of dog chew toys from Nylabone, animal shelter sanitation chemicals and supplies from Rescue Disinfectants, a $1,000 Feed the Hungry grant from American Humane, and a $5,000 grant from the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation to help fund the purchase cost of a cargo van needed to transport dogs and cats. With assistance from these organizations and support from our community, the shelter can continue to provide care and find homes for pets in need. Please consider donating to the van fund. Countless animal lives will be saved through the use of this van.

Did you know the shelter has a Pet Food Assistance Program for Marion county residents? If you are facing a crisis and cannot afford pet food, please contact the shelter. Our goal is to keep pets in their homes with the people who love them, rather than have them surrendered or abandoned for lack of food. We also manage a Puppy Partner Program in which food and medical care is provided to unwanted litters of puppies until we can arrange transport of the puppies to out-of-state to partner shelters. There is no excuse to abandon puppies!

Our featured dog of the week is Mavis. This lovely medium-sized German Shepherd mix is about 18 months old. She is quiet, calm and walks well on a leash. She appears to be house-broken. Mavis was heartworm positive when she came to the shelter but has been treated by a veterinarian and is doing well.

Puff Puff, our featured cat, was surrendered due to a change in her owner’s circumstances. She is an affectionate 2-year-old silver tabby, litter box trained, and used to being inside and outside. You can call to make an appointment to see these cuties and all the other kittens, cats and dogs available for adoption. Have a Heart Pet Shelter is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville. The thrift store is now open Thursday through Saturday 9am-3pm. Phone 870-449-7387.
