Pets of the Week

Have a Heart Pet Shelter is thrilled to announce that we were recently selected to be the recipient of generous grants from two outstanding animal rescue organizations. The Petfinder Foundation recently awarded our Shelter a 2021 Capital Improvement Grant of $4200 for the purpose of replacing worn dog kennel doors. Our kennels are in constant use and incur considerable wear and tear. The replacement doors will help keep our pups safe and secure. Additionally, the Arkansas Animal Rescue Foundation (AARF) awarded a $3000 grant for our Puppy Partner Program to help with costs associated with medical care, feeding and transportation of puppies to participating out-of-state shelters. This grant will allow the Shelter to assist more members of our community who need assistance with re-homing litters of abandoned or unwanted puppies. Sadly, there are far too many unwanted puppies and too few homes in Arkansas. This is why we are so vocal in telling everyone about the necessity of spay and neuter, and host an all volunteer Low Cost Spay and Neuter Clinic at the Shelter 3 times per year. We are grateful for the support of these organizations and will continue to try to help as many animals as we can with the assistance of grants and the support of our community.

Our featured kitty for this week is a sweet, big kitty (16+ pounds), appropriately named Whopper. Whopper is FIV positive, but in very good health. He is an affectionate, lovable ball of fluff and a total couch potato who is mellow and friendly. Needless to say, he is not a picky eater either. He would love to have a porch to sun himself on, and would be an unforgettable addition to your family. If you’re looking for a companion to share your couch and binge-watch your favorite shows, Whopper is your boy!!

O’Henry is our featured dog for the week. O’Henry is a 7 month old, male brindle colored mountain cur.  He weighs in at 26 lbs and will most likely get only a little bit bigger.  We would consider him to be a small to medium dog.  O’Henry was surrendered by his owners due to a change in their living arrangements.  They adopted him at 8 weeks of age and loved him dearly.  He is a very smart little guy and is housebroken, crate trained and loves to sit in your lap. One of his favorite pastimes is playing “fetch” with his toys.  He is good with other dogs and cats.  O’Henry generally walks well, but wants to jump on you and could use a little more training on his leash. Like many of our adoptable dogs, O’Henry would benefit with an owner who has the time to give him additional training.

At this point, due to an increase in Covid-19 cases in our area, we are doing adoptions by appointment only. If you would like to meet O’Henry, Whopper or any of our other adoptable animals, call Have a Heart at 870-449-7387 to schedule an appointment. Have a Heart is located at 657 Highway 202 in Yellville.
